Not all upgrades are visible.

Spend any time at all with us and you’ll hear the phrase “long term cost of ownership.” True value is lasting value. Short term economy is too often false economy. And one of the easiest ways to reduce your long term cost of ownership is to improve the energy efficiency of your home.

There are four really simple reasons to make your home energy efficient:

You’ll save money
Even simple improvements can cut your heating, cooling and lighting costs in half. It’s possible to eliminate them.

You’ll make your home more comfortable
Imagine a fine Nantucket Island home without any drafts, without any cold spots. You and your family can be more comfortable.

You’ll improve your resale value
Studies conducted since the early 1970's have consistently concluded that energy-efficient homes earn a higher resale price than average homes. In a market like Nantucket that can add up, a lot.

You’ll reduce your own environmental footprint
We take our own impact on the sensitive environment on this beautiful island we call home very seriously. We call ourselves “fiscal environmentalists”.

Home Energy Rating System (HERS)

Nantucket has voted to join over 250 municipalities in the state of Massachusetts in adopting the Stretch Energy Code. The key feature of the new code is that it is performance based. It requires that all new homes meet a specific HERS® (Home Energy Rating System) index rating target.

The HERS Index is a measurement of a home’s energy efficiency and there are a lot of great reasons why you should have a home energy rating performed on your house, whether you are building new, or not.

It provides you with invaluable information about the existing home you live in, like how efficiently it’s operating and where you can make modifications for greater energy savings. When you’re selling your home, a low HERS Index Score can command a higher resale price. And when you’re buying a home, you can anticipate the costs of energy bills and efficiency upgrades. It also helps with:

  • Understanding federal, state and town energy initiatives

  • Pre-construction planning

  • Existing building diagnostics

  • Insulation recommendations

  • HVAC analysis

  • Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)

  • ResCheck Compliance Certificate

  • ComCheck

  • Infrared diagnostics for existing buildings

  • Energy storage solutions

  • Energy code compliance
